FilmFestival Cottbus entends its congratulations to Egoli Tossel Film AG in Berlin: Their film THE LAST STATION which saw its German premiere in Cottbus, just received two nominations by the Academy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 82nd Academy Award. The Oscar-nominees are Christopher Plummer as Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Helen Mirren as Best Actress in a Leading Role. For both of them, being nominated for an Oscar concludes a long list of prestigious nominations. Before the screening of THE LAST STATION as opening film at the 19th FilmFestival Cottbus, Helen Mirren had already received an award as Best Actress at the film festival in Rome. Both actors have also been nominated by the Screen Actor´s Guild and for the Golden Globes.
THE LAST STATION tells about the last days in the life of the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy. Mirren and Plummer in a convincing and humoristic way portray the infamous marital rows of Leo Tolstoy and countess Sofya.
